Well the day approaches for the “ Day of Giants “ Piha Big Wave classic event at Piha beach Saturday 25^th Feb

Once again the Surf Calendars premier event on the surf boats sees Man , Woman and boat pitted against mother nature’s best at Piha beach this coming Saturday . with some of Australia’s best crews also attending and the cream of the NZ Surf boat circuit chasing the spoils against the big west coast surf. It doesn’t get much better than this as Piha’s own crews are battling it out for line honours as well as some of NZ’s top trophy’s. Racing starts at 9.30am and should conclude approx 1.30pm.

Northern Region Representative Teams have been announced

The Northern Region have just announced their Northern Region Team.

Our members below have been selected to represent ‘Auckland’ at the 2012 Lion Foundation Surf League – Main Beach, Mount Maunganui, on the 9th – 12th February.

Junior Girls Surf Event – Whangamata

The event will be on Monday 5 December, meeting at the Whangamata surf shop for registration at 8:30am. The day will start off with surf coaching sessions by some of NZ’s top surfers and in the afternoon we will have an expression session followed by prize giving.

Entries are open to all year 7, 8, 9 & 10 Girls only.

Cost will be $20 to register. Money must accompany registration form - Girls Day Registration (38)

Auckland Pool Champs

Congratulations to the Piha Pool Champs team – Auckland Pool Champs for the 4th year running!

Piha SLSC entered both Junior and Senior teams in the recent Auckland Pool Champs held at Westwave Aquatic Centre (Henderson). The team went into the competition with a proud record of having won the last 3 years and throughout the day the leading team kept switching between Piha and Red Beach. After a wonderful days competition Piha came out on top by just 1 point! A big thanks to all the Coaches and Parents who helped make it a great event and for all the Time Keeping! We are sending a team to the National Pool Champs in Hamilton (Oct 28th-30th), so good luck to all who are competing.

Surf Life Guard Award

The first Surf Life Guard Award (SLGA) course of the season has begun. The following SLGA exams are scheduled at this stage.

- SLGA Exam Apr 1st – Training to commence Mar 1st.

NOTE: Membership fees/subs for the 2011/ 2012 season have to be paid before attendance is accepted onto any of these courses.
