HOW YOU CAN STAY SAFE - SURF SAFETY TIPS

ALWAYS SWIM BETWEEN THE RED & YELLOW FLAGS!
Between the red & yellow flags is the area we patrol most, and where you will be safe. We are always watching this area, so always make sure you swim there and stay inside the two flags.
IF YOU GET IN TROUBLE RAISE ONE HAND STRAIGHT ABOVE YOUR HEAD, AND TRY NOT TO PANIC.
One hand raised above your head is the signal that you are in trouble and we will respond as quickly as possible. Try to stay calm.
TAKE EXTREME CARE WHEN FISHING FROM ROCKS.
When fishing from rocks always wear a lifejacket, and don’t go alone. Don’t stand near the waters edge as waves can be unpredictable and you may get washed into the sea.
IF YOU ARE CAUGHT IN A RIP.
Try swimming parallel with the shore to escape the rip, then swim ashore. Don’t try and swim against the rip current as you will tire quickly. Raise your hand directly above your head and stay calm.

Sponsors

Piha SLSC services an immense number of beach goers.

We receive no guaranteed government or local body funding. Whilst we receive some support from our national body, we need much more to fund the annual cost of operating our club. Without the help of our sponsors and grants we wouldn’t be able to do the job we do – Thank You!
